Season one of the show follows the disappearance of a young boy Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), and a telekinetic girl (Millie Bobby Brown) who helps her friends in their search, while the boy’s older brother (Charlie Heaton), mother (Winona Ryder), and the town police chief (David Harbour) start their own investigations.
The show’s season two episode titles were recently released and this has provided some details into the angle the storyline will follow. Matt and Ross Duffer continue in their capacity as writers and directors and the recently released information reveals that the second season will take place about a year later (in 1984) and will add four new characters to the story.
With the second season of Stranger Things scheduled to be released in the second quarter of 2017, the Duffer Brothers have begun casting and have provided us with a sneak peak at the the new characters that will be joining the season 2 of Stranger Things.
One of the new characters that will be joining Stranger Things is Max, who has been described as a tough and confident 12-14-year-old female. Her appearance, behavior and pursuits seem more typical of boys than of girls in the era in which the series is set. Max makes use of her skateboard to get around everywhere.
Max has a difficult relationship with her step-brother Billy which appears to have made her suspicious of everybody around her and scared of letting people into her past. Season 2 premiere episode is titled “MadMax,” and this might point to what is about to come out of this character in the new season.
Billy is another new character and is Max’s very muscular and hyper-confident” older step-brother who has been trailed by rumours of killing someone at his previous school. The violent and unpredictable nature of Billy shows itself to those closest to him, especially to the ones younger than he is.
Billy also steals people’s girlfriends and is good at drinking games. Episode 9 Of Season 2 is titled “The Lost Brother,” and is expected to play a significant role in the new storyline of Stranger Things.
The title character Roman is a thirty something year old who grew up with a drug-addicted mother and spent the better part of his life homeless. It has been said that he suffered a “a great loss at an early age and has been seeking revenge ever since.” He has also been described as an outsider who has a problem connecting with people.
The name of this character is male but is being cast from a gender-neutral perspective. This means that the character could end up being a female and may have a different name altogether. There’s also a possibility that Roman’s brother or sister were taken to be part of the research program or they were also taken by a monster from the Upside Down, even though there is no evidence that a portal to that dimension had opened up before the events we saw in the first season.
There’s also the likelihood that Roman is related to Barb who definitely deserves justice for all that happened to him in season 2.
It is left to be seen how Max, Billy and Roman will fit into the season 2, which the Duffer Brothers have described as a sequel instead of a season.
